MUSEUM OF THE MAKER'S HAND

In this traveling, miniature museum each specimen box becomes a gallery. Each gallery presents an object – a single offcut from other works included in "BARTRAM'S BOXES REVISITED" - PRESENTED BY THE CENTER FOR ART IN WOOD

For John Bartram, the plants that his boxes transported offered fascinating insight into the divine process of creation. Similarly, the boxes of this project hold objects that reference greater processes. The transition from raw material to work of art, the developing union between artist and object, the inspired refinement of an idea, and the life and death of a tree are all processes which can be traced to these discarded pieces of scrap material. It is in this museum that these relics are made holy.
