WELCOME TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF MYTHS & BALLADS
In the Department of Myths and Ballads, objects are the units of language with which to tell tales.
In their most elemental form, objects are seen as the principal carriers of meaning and the substructure with which to speak. However, each member chooses to say very different things in vastly different dialects.
Members of this department reject conceptual analysis of objects and focus instead on using them for the purpose of lyrical expression.

MARCEL YORIK
Department Chair
Marcel Yorik is interested in constructing narratives through found objects. He believes that stories are already out there, embedded in objects, waiting to be unearthed. With a topic in mind, he gathers objects that might have an interesting point of view. He watches and listens as these objects tell one another of places they’ve been and other objects they once knew. Some speak in strange tongues. Some lie. Some omit certain truths. Marcel selects, edits, makes alterations, and occasionally crafts a missing component. Through his hands, these overheard fragments are assembled into a song.
